David Barkley ('Sarge') - Executive Chef

 Executive Chef David Barkley, better known to us here at Murrieta’s and many Canmore natives as “Sarge” has been in the hospitality industry for the better part of 30 years. After working in a couple of restaurants as a teenager David decided to pursue a career in the culinary field and register for a cooking apprenticeship at Nova Scotia Community Collage, after graduating in 1995 he worked for a couple of renowned restaurants in Halifax before moving to Kananaskis Alberta in 1998. Wail working for Canadian Pacific Hotels he shifted his carrier and worked as a restaurant manager at the Lodge at Kananaskis, then being offered an opportunity to open the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel as an Outlets Manager he moved to Vancouver. After a couple of years he transferred to Ottawa to work at the historic Chateau Laurie as the assistant banquet manager.

After answering the call to return to the mountains; now known as Sarge and feeling the urge to once again work with food. Chef Sarge had worked for some of the busiest and most well known restaurants in Canmore for the past 14 years. It was by a stroke of luck and good timing that Murrietas Canmore has retained Chef Sarge to oversee our kitchen. Bringing with him his experience in hotels, fine dining restaurants and high volume pubs. His passion for quality and constancy can be experienced with every dish, and pays respect to the rustic west coast style food we are best known for. We look forward to the exciting culinary experience that Chef Sarge provides our guest from day to day and can’t wait to taste the ongoing changes to the menu for years to come.


Cody Marks - General Manager

Murrieta's Canmore

Cody began his Hospitality Management Career in the Bow Valley at the Banff Springs Hotel back in 2007. He moved to Banff with his wife after graduating from Assiniboine College in Brandon Manitoba, where he studied Hospitality Management. While working at the "Castle in the Rockies" Cody learned and embraced all aspects of quality service, high standards, leading a team, Attention to detail and more.
After leaving the hotel in 2011 Cody worked with several restaurants throughout the Bow Valley in both Senior Management and consulting Roles. He joined The Murrietas Westcoast Bar and Grill team in 2014 as Assistant Manager and has taken over as General Manager in 2017. Cody has a very strong passion for the industry and the town of Canmore, he enjoys partnering with local businesses and being an ambassador for the amazing food and beverage industry in Canmore whenever he has the ability to do so. When he is not at the restaurant Cody enjoys spending time with his wife Jennifer and two son's Ryder and Levi, snowboarding, biking and taking advantage of all of the things the beautiful town of Canmore has to offer.


Sophie Pontone - Assistant General Manager

Sophie joined the Murrieta's team in 2018 after making the move to Canmore from the UK. With a business degree under her belt, she spent the last 10 years working around the world onboard private and charter Superyachts for the rich and famous. Her hospitality experience within 5* environments transfers to Murrieta's where she leads the front of house team alongside Cody, to deliver exceptional service from start to finish. She has a strong passion for food and wine, having worked in the restaurant industry most of her life, and having travelled in excess of 70 countries getting to sample cuisine from far and wide. Sophie loves the outdoor lifestyle Alberta has to offer, spending her free time camping, hiking, kayaking and keeping as active as possible.
